We don't usually make promotion for anybody. However, we couldn't
present Xieng-Khouang without talking about the "Maly".
Mr Sousath Phetrasy is the owner of a guesthouse called the "Maly"
; Sousath explained us he prefers to use the term "hotel" in order not to
frighten off the tour operators.

|
The quality and cleanliness of the guesthouse is
exceptional. In the summer time, when there are less tourists, he changes guesthouse
prices, so you have excellent value for money. Maly Hotel is approximatively half a mile
outside the city, a pleasant walk beside rice fields. Sousath's wife is an excellent cook,
she gave us the opportunities to taste and appreciate traditional dishes.

Sousath is an educated man, he speaks English and German fluently (he lived 7 years in
East-Germany). He also speaks some French. He gave us much information about the history
of the Plain of Jars, the Lao life, and about tourism in his country. In 1989, he asked
his government to "open" the Plain of Jars.
From the travel agency in his hotel, visitors can hire a 4wd vehicle, and driver, for a
moderate price ($20), and see the three opened sites of Jars. It's a 60 miles (one day)
trip on bumpy trails.
Sousath offers other trips especially to hotsprings or to the old capital ("the
old Xieng-Khouang") formerly blitzed by the americans during the war of Viet-Nam.
He can also confirm your domestic flight and take you to the airport for free.
